SLOPPY DOE'S

 SLOPPY DOE'S (A.K.A. BAMBI BURGERS)

Welcome back to Let's Cook, the when ever I feel like cooking blog.

Today we are re-visiting a recipe we made for this site back in 2017.

GAME DAY SLOPPY JOE'S

But we are not making this out of Beef, or Chicken, or Turkey. Or GOD forbid, TOFU.

Nope, not us. Let's go out into the wild wilderness and find us a deer !! I got a hankering' for some Venision.

People who know me know that the above is B.S. No way am I going out into the woods and kill an animal.

But I will eat the little bugger if it comes in a package.

So thank you Gator Bradshaw for sitting in that deer stand for months on end waiting for the first deer you've seen in a coons age.

And sharing it with us, so Penny and I can enjoy Back Strap and Sloppy Doe's.

The recipe came to us from my favorite on line cook.

COOKING WITH CAROLYN

So let's get to it.

Ingredients

2 Tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil

    1/3 Cup Onions, finely diced

1/3 Cup Green Bell Pepper, finely diced

    2 Clove Garlic, finely minced

1¼ Pounds Lean Ground Turkey or Ground Chicken (In my case, VENSION)

1 Tablespoon Grand Diamond All Purpose Seasoning

    1½ Teaspoons Kosher Salt

½ Teaspoon Black Pepper 3 Level Tablespoons Dark Brown Sugar

1-15 ounce Can Tomato Sauce (we used our home canned sauce)

    2 Tablespoons Tomato Paste

    1 Tablespoon Worcestershire

2 Teaspoons Whole Grain Mustard OR Dijon Mustard

    1 Teaspoon Red Wine Vinegar

Directions

Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil to the pan and let it heat up for about 1 minute. Add the onions and bell pepper to the heated olive oil and stir, cook just until translucent about 3 to 4 minutes.

Next add the garlic and stir for about 1 minute.

Now, add the Bambi meat to the pan, break up the meat with a large spoon and cook for about 5 to 8 minutes. (Note: It is ok if the meat is partially cooked at this point.)

Let's take a second here and talk about breaking up meat in order to sauté it.

This comes from another YOU Tube cook, that I like to watch.

CATHERINE'S PLATES

This meat chopper is the tool she uses to sauté BEEF. I thought it was brilliant so Penny did her Amazon dance.

MEAT CHOPPER

And it really WORKS !!!!

And check out Catherine's  YOU Tube channel. There are some great recipes for you to try.

Now back to our show.

Next, add the Grand Diamond Seasoning, salt, pepper, and dark brown sugar. Stir. Finally, add the tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire, mustard and red wine vinegar. Stir to combine.

Cook the Sloppy Jane mixture for about 25 to 30 minutes stir occasionally, about 2 to 3 times, throughout the cooking process.

While it cooks, it might be time for an adult beverage.

And a cute puppy(s)

Goo Bradshaw in the foreground, Grover Cleveland  in the back.

Now that is is all cooked, we are ready to serve!!!!

If you desire, you can toast up the buns in the oven, broiler or toaster. We did not.

Get out the CHIPS and Pickles.

We have a mixed marriage.

(But we agree on the Pickles)

Place a godly amount of meat on the bun.

ENJOY !!!!

This was SOOOOOO good. You would never know it was "game meat."

Thanks Gator, for another great meal.

And get on line and order some GRAND DIAMOND SEASONING !!!!

ORDER GRAND DIAMOND SEASONING

That's all the time we have for now. Coming up next (I think) we are taking a soup that we all grew up with.

Don't worry, we are not going to eat this. We are going to FIX IT. And according to my wife, make the best damned Chicken Noodle Soup ever to grace a dinner table.

That's coming up NEXT on "Let's Cook".

God speed, mother nature.

Live Long, and Prosper
